Belmont Primary School Digital Strategy Design and Implementation

 Introduction

The government of Barbados jumped started an island-wide Technology Plan by providing devices (tablets and laptops) for all students of Barbados. It is from this end our digital strategy continued.

All students at Belmont Primary School have access to technological devices. We are advocates for digital literacy and would like to integrate technology into our teaching and leadership as soon as we have the infrastructure.

The Plan will be in effect for three years (January 1, 2023 through January 30, 2026), with an annual review and update. The goal of this three-year plan is to find solutions for promoting student accomplishment through the use of technology.

Teachers, administrators, parents, and members of the school community are all stakeholders in this method. All members of the aforementioned stakeholder group provided feedback.

A SWOT Analysis was conducted and from that and information gathered through surveys with students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders the below objectives were formulated.

School's technology Vision: 

The learning community at Belmont Primary School will be digitally literate life-long learners. Learners will be able to successfully interact in a technology environment in order to fulfill their personal and educational objectives. They will use technology to access, retrieve, and use the information at the school, community, national, and worldwide levels.

School Technology goals and Objectives:

Goal: To provide training, use, and understand of modern day technology to students, teachers and parents.

Objectives:

1- Implement a system of effective monitoring of students while using technology.

2. All staff will receive professional development to ensure that technology is leveraged to transform learning possibilities for all students.

3. Technology integration in all classrooms to meet the requirements of all students, provide individuality and choice, and improve learning possibilities.

4. Maintenance and update of infrastructure to ensure that technology tools are used seamlessly.

5. Budget forecasts for future technological requirements.

6.    Procedure for monitoring plan implementation

Strategic Plan Core Strategies:

As our core methods and approaches to attaining our Vision and Mission, these shared Core Strategies are the glue that keeps us together.

- We will actively seek funds to ensure that we have the resources we need to carry out our purpose.

- To educate the whole child, we will implement and evaluate a comprehensive educational curriculum based on 21st Century learning skills.

- Every student will use technology to actively build 21st Century abilities in a safe and confidential digital environment.

- The professional development program, which includes time for scheduling and cooperation, will assist teachers and administration in providing a nurturing, inspiring, and demanding educational program.

- To promote our mission and realize our vision, we will encourage contact with stakeholders at all levels in accordance with our core principles.

 

PURPOSE

The goal of this digital strategy is to put in place a framework that gives instructors more control over how they use technology in the classroom. This will inspire them to develop more technology-centered lesson plans to improve teaching and learning, as students indicated in surveys that they would prefer to use technology more during classes.

 They are often exposed to technology in the classroom through the viewing of movies or visual displays, and they only utilize tablets or laptops once a week in Information Technology classes.

Terms such as ‘synchronous’ and ‘asynchronous’ are now synonymous with planning and thinking for online learning and, while previously might not have been in the thinking of school leaders, they certainly will be now. Hence why it is extremely important to train and implement the use of devices daily in school in the event we are thrown back into online classrooms so our students can transition flawlessly.
